Timelines

So I started this whole project a year ago. It was the end of August 2024 that I began losing weight after my schooling obligations had wrapped up.

I started blogging it at my other website (now defunct) in January, as if it was a New Year’s resolution, partly because I had made it my New Year’s resolution for 2025 to continue what I’d started in September 2024, and partly just because that happened to be a point in the weight loss when I really needed some help with motivation and I thought blogging could be that.

Now, I thought it would be fun to think about my timeline, not only from January 2025 to January 2026 (as was my plan from when I first started blogging about this), but also summer 2024 to summer 2025. My new blog is up, and I’ve been doing all this for a year now.

I went from quite obese to normal weight. I’m normal weight (by bmi and also waist circumference) as I write this.

I’ve put on quite a bit of muscle over the last half a year. And I’ve been doing BJJ for a few months now.

That’s huge. That’s really everything I could have hoped for a year ago - more than I would have dared to hope, really.

I’ll check in in January, as I’ve been planning to. But I was reflecting, and I think what’s going to be really interesting is to take stock next summer. I’ve spent most of the last year in a calorie deficit, and very little of it in a surplus trying to put on muscle. My hope is that this next year will be the opposite of that, so I’m hoping I will be able to put on some meaningful muscle by then, though hopefully without becoming too much less lean overall (I will probably scatter some “minicuts” in as needed). And I will have been doing BJJ consistently for a year by then (if all goes as planned!), which should add up to a decent amount of skill.

And then when I start to think about what could be possible another year out from there, if I stick with it … it’s all pretty exciting stuff.
