New resolutions blog
I’ll soon be shutting down my old blog, at which I had stopped doing the sorts of writing it was originally intended for and which I’d switched to using basically just as a public resolution tracker to keep myself accountable.
This year (2025), in January, I resolved three things: to get down to a healthy BMI (achieved, in February, though only for a day; I’m hanging out five pounds shy of that goal currently as I write this, but I hope to get back down to there before too long), to build up a consistent calisthenics or resistance exercise habit (accomplished, in March, and sustained to now without interruption), and to join a BJJ gym and start training consistently (achieved in June and sustained to now without interruption).
I give monthly updates about these goals. There’s a numbers portion, where I report what I accomplished the previous month (which usually involves seeing how closely my weight at the end of the month aligns with my goals at the end of the previous month, and saying whether by workouts and BJJ classes continued as intended without interruption). Then I give some reflections on anything about those three goals that stuck out to me that month that I might want to learn for the future. And then I say what I’m shooting for the following month.
I might add a fourth goal at some point. I might develop the existing goals in one way or another (eg by shooting for a BJJ competition or adding Muay Thai to the schedule at some point or something like that). But for now I’m just sticking with those three, since getting started with them is valuable, but being able to stick with them is the only think that will make them part of my life. At this point I think it’s still something I have to make an effort to do, though it’s getting easier.
So come along for the ride! I’ll see you next at the beginning of October, once my current website will have departed.
